Queen’s Birthday Garden Reception

Because the Bounty Day celebrations on Norfolk Island were held on the 9th June this year, the Queen’s Birthday function at Government House was held over for a week. But it did happen Monday last. This is an important event for those who live on Norfolk Island.

Several hundred guests attended a Garden Reception at Government House as guests of the Administrator, the Hon. Neil Pope and his wife Jen Pope.

The event was significant for several reasons.

Summit to Surf Fun Run

The Banyan Park Summit to Surf fun run was held on this beautiful NI day (Sunday 16th March 2014).

It is one of the favourite events for those who live on Norfolk Island, and is enjoyed by those who holiday on Norfolk Island as well.

The weather was magic, the island green, the ocean a little wild, the sky blue, and the fun atmosphere amongst race-goers was contagious.

Starting at 9:30am, the race began at the Banyan Park Playcentre at Middlegate, and ended at the Kingston Gaol building with a sausage sizzle and refreshments.

Foundation Day on NI

Today was Foundation Day on NI. For those who live on Norfolk Island, and travel here for the event, it was a wonderful day.

A re-enactment of the landing in 1788 by a small party of seven free men, two marines, two seamen, one midshipman and nine male and six female convicts, led by Philip Gidley King, was held.

Hundreds of visitors and locals were there to witness the celebration. They heard the stories of those times, and the stories of the lives of the early settlers from their children.

His Honour the Administrator, the Hon. Neil Pope, and Mrs Jen Pope, were hosts to several hundred at the 2014 Australia Day Reception at Government House on Sunday evening.

Wearable Art Awas Wieh (our way)

On Saturday night (18 Jan) the Community Arts Association of NI held the 9th annual Wearable Arts Festival at Rawson Hall.

Hundreds of people who live on Norfolk Island, and visitors, attended this event - one of the most popular in the NI events calendar.

There were 25 entries across five sections: recycled materials (the largest section with 11 entrants), art through the ages, reinventing the groom, natural fibres, and extravagance.

The night’s overall model / designer winner was Victoria Rose Paris / Julie Paris who won a trip to NZ to attend the World Of Wearable (WOW) Arts held annually in […]
